**Please Note**

  • All Community Service opportunities are for South Country Library patrons only. All others seeking community service hours must visit their home library.
  • Any paperwork needed to be signed can be done so Monday through Thursday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Young Adult Desk, unless prior arrangements have been made. Please call ahead to ensure someone is available.
  • All requests for additional community service projects beyond what is offered must be made at least one week in advance to the YA Librarian. Additional projects are not always available and depend on the library’s needs.
  • Color and submit completed pages in digital format that will be forwarded to Color a Smile, a non profit organization that distributes cheerful drawings to people in need of a smile. Complete an online application to receive guidelines on this project.
  • For every 4 sheets you color, you will receive 1 hour of community service. You may earn up to 5 hours community service per month.
  • Certificates acknowledging any credits earned will be e-mailed as a pdf document. Please allow one week for processing of a community service certificate.
  • Teens will receive one (1) hour of community service for four (4) original kindness rocks. Maximum credit for this project is one (1) hour, which equals four (4) rocks.
  • In order to receive community service, you must take one picture of your finished kindness rocks and email: teen@sctylib.org with the subject line: Volunteer Kindness Rocks. Along with the picture, include in the body of the email: your full name, phone number, and grade level. Within 5 days, you will receive notification of your community service from the South Country Library via an email response.
  • Volunteers are needed to clip and sort coupons that will be sent to military families on bases in the United States and abroad. You may earn a maximum of 2 hours of community service once a month. Coupons are available in the YA Department.

Book Reviews

  • Read a new YA Book (fiction, non-fiction, graphic novel, e-book or audiobook). Submit a review to earn a certificate for 1.5 community service hours. You can do a maximum of 3 book review a month. Books can be found in the library catalog or on Overdrive  Please fill out the review form and return it to the YA Desk. Book Review Form
  • Please note: Reviews on Manga will no longer be accepted for Community Service.
  • Assist the Young Adult and Reference Department with various projects. Projects are on an as needed basis. Please fill out the application and return to the YA Desk.  Volunteer Application
