Information For Voters
The date for district residents to vote for the library’s Trustees will be Tuesday, April 14, 2025 at the library. You will be electing two trustees to three-year terms. Recipients of the two highest vote counts will fill terms until 2029. Newly elected trustees will be seated at the May 21 meeting of the Board. This is your chance to participate in the support of a truly local democratic institution. Please remember to come to the library and cast your ballot. Applications for absentee ballots are available online or at the office of the Clerk of the School District.
VOTING DAY: Tuesday, April 14, 2025, 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the library, Community Room.
WHO CAN VOTE: You must be a registered voter. You may register to vote in a library election if you are a citizen of the U.S., 18 years of age, and have been a resident of the South Country School District for at least 30 days.
VOTER REGISTRATION: You can register in person at Suffolk County Board of Elections, 700 Yaphank Ave., Yaphank, NY 11980. Call 631-852-4554 for a voter application or go to: suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/BOE

JOANN NEAL
I have been a resident of the South Country School District for well over 30 years. I raised my 4 children here and have use the library continuously, first while attending college and then for my children to do school reports and reading. Now that my children are grown and gone, I enjoy coming to the library several times a week to use the computer, borrow books or attend the many programs offered here. I have been serving on the Library Board periodically for more than 2 decades. I have been Board President several times and I am the current Board Secretary. Being on the Library Board has been a wonderful and rewarding experience and I would love to continue serving by being re-elected to another 3 year term.

I am requesting to be considered for a position on the
South Country Library Board. The South Country Library is an indispensable resource for the South Country Community. I hope to remain an active part of this library, contributing to its community-building efforts and its Mission to connect community through the wonders of learning, creativity, and shared experiences.
My prior term as trustee has strengthened my appreciation for the essential role the library plays in the lives of South Country residents. I had the privilege of working collaboratively with fellow trustees, library leadership, and staff to support initiatives that enhance community engagement and expand access to resources. I participated in policy discussions, budget reviews, and long-term planning efforts that ensure the library remains a vibrant, inclusive, and fiscally responsible institution. I also supported community outreach efforts and attended numerous library programs and events, reinforcing my belief in the library as a
cornerstone of our district.
My connection to the South Country Library began long
before my service on the Board. As a parent in the South
Country School District, I have seen firsthand how the library inspires curiosity and academic success. Since 2007, my children have benefited from its programs, resources, and welcoming environment. My daughter grew up participating in the summer reading club, children’s programs, and later relied on the library as her primary study space.
Beyond academics, my family and I have enjoyed many of the library’s community offerings—from museum passes to LIRR discount trips to New York City, discount tickets to local attractions such as the Gateway Theatre in Bellport Village and to the many events hosted within its walls. These programs enrich our community and strengthen the bonds among residents.
As a South Country resident, it would be an honor to continue serving the South Country Library that has given so much to my family and to our community.

He residido en el Distrito Escolar de South Country por más de 30 años. Crié a mis cuatro hijos aquí y he usado la biblioteca continuamente, primero mientras estudiaban en la universidad y luego para que mis hijos hicieran sus informes escolares y leyeran. Ahora que mis hijos ya no están, disfruto yendo a la biblioteca varias veces por semana para usar la computadora, pedir prestados libros o asistir a los numerosos programas que se ofrecen. He sido miembro de la Junta de la Biblioteca periódicamente durante más de dos décadas. He sido presidente de la Junta varias veces y actualmente soy su secretario. Más allá de lo académico, mi familia y yo hemos disfrutado de muchas de las ofertas comunitarias de la biblioteca, desde pases para museos hasta viajes con descuento del LIRR a la ciudad de Nueva York, entradas con descuento a atracciones locales como el Teatro Gateway en Bellport Village y los numerosos eventos que se celebran en su interior. Estos programas enriquecen nuestra comunidad y fortalecen los lazos entre los residentes.
Como residente de South Country, sería un honor seguir sirviendo a la Biblioteca de South Country, que tanto ha aportado a mi familia y a nuestra comunidad.
