In an effort to protect public health, South Country Library has partnered with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Regional Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center in their Tick Bite Prevention Education Campaign. As you may know, ticks can transmit disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) promotes public education to reduce the risk of tick-borne diseases.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a representative from the Suffolk County Department of Health will be offering information about the variety of ticks found in Suffolk County, the diseases caused by ticks, protective measures that can be taken to prevent tick bites, proper tick removal techniques, and steps to take if bitten by a tick.
We hope you will stop by to pick up tweezers for tick removal, tick-identification cards, and handouts.
