Local historian Erin Becker presents a history of the Peconic Bay scallop industry, explaining the place of the scallop in New York City/Long Island cultural heritage and cuisine.  Last year, the scallop crop suffered a catastrophic failure and the season opened in November to find that 90% of the scallops had died.  How does knowing the history of this industry tell us about where it stands today?
