AARP Tax Assistance Program

Registration for the AARP Tax Assistance Program begins for residents on Tuesday, January 2 at 9:30 A.M.  Non-residents may begin to register on Tuesday, January 16 at 9:30 a.m., if there are spaces still available. This is a free, volunteer-run tax service for seniors and low-and middle-income patrons with basic returns.  Spaces are limited and BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Patrons must have a valid South Country library card and must obtain/renew cards if they are registering in the first two weeks.  Both spouses must attend to file a joint return.  To make an appointment, visit/call the Reference Desk at (631) 286-0818.

SMART Recovery® is the leading SELF-EMPOWERING addiction recovery support group. Our participants learn tools for recovery based on the latest scientific research. We can help people recover from all types of addiction and addictive behaviors including: alcoholism, drug abuse, drug addiction, substance abuse, alcohol abuse, gambling addiction, cocaine addiction, and addiction to other substances and activities. Participation can be anonymous and information shared is confidential. We are a self-empowering, abstinence based, self-help support group (NOT a 12-step program) for both men and women based on concepts of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT).
The SMART Recovery® 4-Point Program offers tools and techniques for each program point:
Point 1: Enhancing and Maintaining Motivation
Point 2: Coping with Urges
Point 3: Managing thoughts, feelings and behaviors
Point 4: Living a balanced life

Island Harvest will be at the library to help with SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) screening, applications, and to provide information and help mediate problems with Social Services. No registration required.  Stop by  to find out if you are eligible or you can call Maria at 631-873-4775 ext. 210. You can apply online at mybenefits.ny.gov.
