Children’s Department News and Events

Registration for all programs has started.
You may register by phone now.
Initial registration is limited to 4 programs per child. Starting Nov. 12, you may sign children up for additional programs.
Please remember that it’s the responsibility of parents to supervise their own children’s library use and materials selection.
We ask for your consideration of programmers and other program attendees – please
do not be late! If you are 10 minutes late for a program, you will not be admitted.
Book Week
National Children’s Book Week is November 12-18. This year’s theme is “Rise Up Reading”. To celebrate, we will be displaying the winning entries in our 23rd Annual Bookmark Contest starting November 14.
Winter Warmth Holiday Tree
This year we will be collecting new hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, slippers, and socks for children and adults to be given to organizations which help those in need in our area. Please bring your unwrapped donation(s) to the Children's Room between Saturday, December 1 and Sunday December 16, where they will decorate our Winter Warmth tree before being donated.
Support Group for Children with Special Needs and their Parents
A facilitator and a librarian will host the group to provide resources and to promote conversation among parents. Adaptive toys will be provided for children to use during the program. Tues. Dec. 11, 7-8 p.m.
South Country Library Mothers’ Center
This weekly program offers a place to learn, to listen, and to be listened to. It’s an opportunity to talk with other moms and share parenting concerns in a non-judgmental, parent-to-parent setting. Children are welcome! Please join us for an Open House on Tues. Nov. 6, 10:30-11:30 a.m. A six-week session will start the following Tuesday, for which you must register.

Family Fun – Colorful Turkey
Ages 2-5 AND an adult. Hear a story, sing a song, and make a colorful turkey craft. Wed. Nov. 14, 6-6:30 p.m.
Tot Time
Kids 18 months-5 years AND an adult. Stories, singing, dancing, and crafts on Mon. Nov. 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Shake, Rattle, and Read
Ages 12-30 mos. AND an adult. Hear a story, sing some songs, and explore musical instruments. Siblings welcome. Two session program on Thurs. Nov. 29, & Dec. 6, 2-2:30 p.m.
Mother Goose
Ages newborn – 18 months AND an adult. Sing, say, and play along with Mother Goose rhymes. Siblings welcome. Two session program on Tues. Dec. 4 & 11, 2-2:30 p.m.

Preschooler’s Craft Time – Hanging Owl
Ages 3 – 5 AND an adult. Make an owl with big shiny eyes to hang up at home. Thurs. Nov. 15, 11-11:30 a.m.
Gobbler’s Wattle Craft
Ages 2 ½ - 5 AND an adult. Make a turkey craft that will look great as a Thanksgiving decoration. Fri. Nov. 16, 11:30-12 noon.
Little Clancy’s New Drum
Ages 3-5 AND an adult. Listen to a story about Clancy and his new drum. Then have fun making your own colorful drum. Thurs. Dec. 13, 11-11:30 a.m.
Swedish Candle Holder
Ages 2 ½ -5 AND an adult. Make a beautiful wood candleholder, wrap it, add a tag, and it’s ready to give as a gift. Fri. Dec. 14, 11:30-12 noon
Holiday Elf Ornament
